The magician writes a prediction on a pice of paper, folds it and gives it to a spectator to hold. He asks her to then name a number less than 52. After she does, he deals the cards one at a time onto the table FACE UP until he reaches the card at the selected number. The spectator opens the paper and reads the prediction -- it is the card at the selected number!
There is no pick-a-card aspect to this effect - that is important. It is far more profound. The set-up can be done on the fly! This trick will hit your audience like a freight train, it will be the one that they remember.

BRAIN WAVER

Effect
Mathematical principles have always existed, waiting to be discovered. For example, if you take any two digit number and subtract the sum of the two digits, e.g. 41-5 or 76-13, you will get an answer divisible by nine.
This principle has been used many times in several tricks. Sometimes it has even produced something magical. One of Bill's favorites appears on the internet under the title "The Flash Mindreader," the creation of Wayne Hoffman, magician, mind reader and software designer.
Hoffman's creation inspired Randy Malcolm, jet-setting magician. He called Bill and described an effect similar to the Flash Mind reader that placed apparently random playing cards on a numerical list. The card at their number would than be revealed in a sealed envelope. Sealed and revealed. That has a nice ring to it. His effect evolved over the course of a couple of weeks, incorporating a pair of dice and some wonderful nuances. Bill came into the picture when he asked Bill to lay out the list for him.
In working on Randy's list, Bill came up with a variation using words. This took several jumps, and in my effort to get as far away from the mathematics and then the words, Bill came up with the following. The results play very big.

The magician asks a spectator to think of an object from a printed list. The selection process is extremely fair. Yet, even before the spectator makes her selection, the magician knows what object she is destined to pick! This is thought reading the way it was meant to be.

My Week With A Stripper

I just spent a titillating week with a stripper. DECK, that is. And did I get lucky!
I always carry a deck of cards. This week, I grabbed a deck, put it in my pocket and away I went. It took half a day for me to realize it was a stripper deck. Until now, I thought a stripped deck was like a Svengali deck - something for beginners. A pitchman's product, something you buy at a flea market.
The more I used the deck, the more possibilities came to light. Forces, controls, demonstrations of skill, impossible locations. At the Florida State Convention, I fooled magician after magician, not once using the standard pitch routines or handlings.

From the creative mind that brought us Monkey in the Middle, and Two for the Show, Bill Goldman will help you floor your spectators! Here's how: A spectator is given a deck of cards or uses his own. He is instructed to shuffle them and select a card while the magician stands on the other side of the room with his back to the spectator. He is further instructed to put the card anywhere in the deck and shuffle the cards, remembering his selection. All of this occurs in the spectator's hands- the Magician touches NOTHING! Then, the magician asks the spectator to pick a number from one to fifty-two. The magician then deals the cards face down until he reaches that number.
