Crowley's Card by Brad Toulouse & Mephysto Magick Studio
Effect
The performer removes from his pocket an intriguing packet, and removes its contents. The packet contains a number of old playing cards, reportedly one owned by Aliester Crowley, "The Most Wicked Man in the World," and reportedly utilized as part of an initiation ritual into his cult, the Ordo Templi Orentis. Half of the cards are given to a spectator to hold, half are retained by the performer. Both packets of cards are spread; the packets differ completely with respect to the value and suites contained. After the spectator turns their packet face down, they are asked to gaze upon the performers cards, and to merely think of one card contained. The performer's cards are gathered, and the spectator's card is announced. The performer reveals that this card contains the life essence of the spectator, or as Crowley would say, "The soul card of the initiate." Legend has it that when Crowley performed this ritual, he would now possess the very soul, contained in the chosen card, of the novice to his cult. However, since the performer is not as malevolent or sinister as Crowley, he has no desire to possess the spectator's soul. The performer's packet of cards is spread...the spectator's chosen card is nowhere to be found. The performer asks the spectator to spread out the packet he/she has been holding the whole time....the spectator's "soul card" is now in its rightful place, in the hands of the spectator!! |

Curse of Tituba by Brad Toulouse & Mephysto Magick Studio
Effect Several mysteriously shaped and etched objects ("Runes") are emptied onto a table. All of the Runes are turned face up by the performer. A spectator is asked to select a Rune from those scattered on the table and place it face up in the middle of the table. The remaining Runes are used to make a 'pathway' on either end of the selected Rune (a la dominoes). Once all the Runes are used up, the symbols on the ends are noted. Next, a small package and piece of parchment are removed from the pouch. The inscription on the parchment is read aloud and explains "The Curse of Tituba" a mystical figure partly responsible for the infamous Salem Witch Hunts. The reading also explains a curse which will only be broken when an individual as powerful as Tituba finds the "hidden" Rune and reveals its symbols magically! A weathered cloth packet is opened and found to contain one solitary Rune. Amazingly, the symbols on the Rune match those at the ends of the path exactly! The curse has been broken and those present spared the trials of Tituba!! |

Diablo by Brad Toulouse & Mephysto Magick Studio
Effect
The performer explains that for his strange little miracles to occur, he often enlists the help of "friends" to make magic and mischief He shows both hands empty, cups them, and calls forth for a spirit to occur. Not only does the spirit come, but it takes the form of a little demon, and is found nestled in the performer's cupped hands. The hands are once again opened.... the demon has vanished! Again the hands are cupped an incantation made, but ...no demon! The spectator is asked to take a peek inside the performer's hands. Suddenly without warning, a firey glow appears in the performer's cupped hands and the demon appears, eyes blazing with an evil glow, as if he has just surfaced from the bowels of hell itself! Feeling the need to gain control of this evil, the performer chants a vanishing spell, and opens his hands. The glow and the demon are both gone...Back to hell where they belong! |

Effect
Using a tie dye silk to represent the sea and with some "crystals," the performer weaves a tale of the Norse god Odin and of his magick. The spectator is asked to hold ten crystals in his/her hand, and the performer assembles the rest of the crystals into a 4-sided diamond shape pattern on the silk. There are only 15 crystals on each side. This represents the Eye Of The Storm, a mystic zone Odin cast upon the Norwegian Sea. The spectator is asked to add their 10 crystals to the others on the silk. The performer does not remove any crystals whatsoever and all the crystals remain visible at all times. However when counted again, there are still only 15 crystals on each of the four sides... the spectator's crystals have become magickly lost in the Eye Of The Storm!!!
THIS IS AN INCREDIBLY FUN, SELF-WORKING EFFECT!!!
Comes complete with colorful silk, sparkling crystals, and detailed instructions for performing this amazing trick!

Effect
Explaining that the magician has other interests besides "magic" he shows the audience an "in progress" piece of artwork; a comic book cover he is drawing. Explaining he hopes that it will someday be worth a lot of money, he places it in on a comic backing board, and inserts it into a Mylar comic bag for safe-keeping. Unfortunately, the magician explains, he is only good at drawing and is very poor at adding the various colors. Enlisting the help of the audience, he gets them to call out colors, throw invisible colors at the drawing, etc. The magician asks an audience member to call out a magic word. He removes the drawing from Mylar cover... nothing has happened! The magician realizes that he needs everyone to yell out the magic word at the same time... when he removes the picture this time, it visibly fills in with color and is now a beautifully decorated comic book cover!

Planetary Glyphs by Brad Toulouse & Mephysto Magick Studio
The performer begins..."As you are undoubtedly aware, we are ruled by an incredible synthesis of "choice and chance." Our ability to control certain pathways in our destiny are inextricably linked to forces truly beyond our meager human abilities to comprehend. One of those forces, perhaps one of the most powerful of all, lay far beyond our grasp...our reach. I am of course referring to the vastness of outer space; the cosmos, the influence of the planetary bodies themselves. I have a set of "planetary glyphs," tokens inscribed with various planetary etchings. There is Mercury, Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, Venus, The Moon, The sun, and Neptune. Today we shall see which planetary body you are under the influence of. I have in this small pouch a symbol of what I believe represents that very planet." The small pouch is then placed on the table in full view.
The performer continues, " Please take theses glyphs in your hands. Warm them with your life force. Shake them up, throwing the planets into a state of cosmic disarray! Now cast them to the table and observe: some glyphs are face up, while others are face down. Those face-down glyphs no longer have influence on your life. Let us remove the face-down glyphs which might cast negative influences. Now take the remaining glyphs and once again warm them...and toss." The process is repeated until only one glyph remains face-up.
The performer continues, "You will notice that the last remaining glyph presents an image of the Moon, the symbol of both the Greek Goddess Diana, as well as Hecate...the celestial and the infernal. It is a symbol of the cyclical nature of life, of new and old, death and rebirth; lost and found opportunities. You are strongly influenced by The Moon. If you doubt this, please remove the small "stone" from my pouch as proof." The spectator than removes a small moon shaped stone from the pouch. It matches the symbol on the glyph precisely!! |

Skull Of Cagliostro by Brad Toulouse & Mephysto Magick Studio
New from Mephysto Magick Studio is the first in a series of exquisitely "hand-made" magic effects suitable for close-up, mentalism, bizarre, or storytelling performers.
The Skull of Cagliostro recounts the historical tale of the infamous Count Cagliostro, and his nefarious activities throughout Europe and Asia. During the effect, the "skull" of Cagliostro is "imprisoned" (threaded and tied) onto silken cords, representing his imprisonment in San Leo Castle in 1795.
Using "magick" you are able to free Cagliostro's skull from the silken cords. Everything is examinable before and after the effect. You receive the beautifully detailed miniature skull, two silken cords, and aged scroll detailing Cagliostro's exploits, a velvet pouch to carry all, and complete instructions. |

Ssserpent Ssscroll by Brad Toulouse and Mephysto Magick Studio
Effect
The performer brings out a paperback book and a cloth scroll. The book can be examined and verified as being a regular book. The scroll is opened and seen to be covered with numbers, as well as arcane symbols and pictures of snakes. The snake, the performer explains, is a mystical magickal creature, and is associated with the ability to prognosticate. Being bitten by a snake himself as a child the performer now has this ability! Taking the paperback book between his hands momentarily, the performer seems to go into a deep trance-like state. When he opens his eyes a moment later, he writes something on a piece of paper, folds it up, and places it to the side. The performer now gives the spectator the scroll, as well as several strips of "snake skin" and five "copperheads" (pennies). Using the snakeskin and the coins, the spectator selects five numbers from the scroll. The numbers are totaled. Let's say the total is 87. The performer instructs the spectator to pick up the book, open it to page 87 and read aloud the first word on that page. Let's say the word is "excitement". The spectator is asked to open the paper and in the center the performer has written the word EXCITEMENT! The book is not gimmicked in any way, use any book! It is possible to repeat the effect with a different person and have a second different prediction made! Spectator freely chooses the numbers on the scroll!Comes complete with scroll, 8 "snakeskin" leather strips and instructions sheet.
Scroll Dimensions Approximately 11" x 9 1/2" (28cm x 24cm) "Snakeskin" Leather Strip Length Approximately 7" (17.75cm)

The Shining by Brad Toulouse & Mephysto Magick Studio
Every once in a while an effect comes along which is at once fascinating and disturbing. In performance, it instills surprise, wonder, and even a twinge of fear. Such is the gift of "The Shining".... With "The Shining" in your repetoire, you will be able to perform a modern & ancient prediction effect which borders on miraculous. Consider this description: * performer removes from a case a face down deck of tarot cards. * deck is turned face up and spread, showing the 56 assorted cards of the Minor Arcana. cards consist of 4 suits (wands, cups, swords, pentacles) and 14 values (ace-ten, page, knight, queen, king) * deck is handed to spectator, face down, who cuts cards several times * deck is returned to performer, face down. deck is spread face down and spectator is asked to select a card but not to look at it. CARD IS PLACED FACE DOWN ON TABLE. NEITHER SPECTATOR NOR PERFORMER KNOW THE VALUE OF THE CARD. * spectator is now asked to deal some cards into two piles, face down. the top card of each pile is turned over. (example: Knight of Wands, and Two of Pentacles) * the performer now states that through "The Shining" that information gleaned from the two turned over cards will be used to determine the spectators selection. * performer takes the value of the first card (i.e., Knight) and suit of the second card (i.e., Pentacles) and states that his prediction is THE KNIGHT OF PENTACLES * only now does the spectator turn over their card.....and it is indeed THE KNIGHT OF PENTACLES! NO FORCE OF ANY KIND USED ANY CARD CAN BE SELECTED A DIFFERENT PREDICTION EACH TIME TAROT CARDS ARE NOT , I REPEAT NOT MARKED SPECTATOR HANDLES THE CARDS EXTENSIVELY EASY TO PERFORM "The Shining" combines two ingenious principles and delivers a diabolical effect sure to fool magicians & laymen alike! |
